Description
Skin Rocks is essentially the equivalent of having a really knowledgable friend who knows everything about skincare. You tell it about your skin type, any concerns, allergies, that kind of thing, and it recommends products from a massive catalogue of over 20,000.
Every product has this really useful "you need this if / you don't need this if" section so you're not just blindly buying stuff. It's founded by Caroline Hirons, who's a huge name in the skincare world (bestselling author, the works), so people genuinely trust what the app recommends.
There's also a whole content side with guides, ingredient breakdowns, and expert interviews. It started free and now has a premium subscription too.
What I did
- Developed the product experience — from everything from how you set up your skin profile to how you browse and discover products
- Built out frontend interfaces for the React Native app (supporting both Android and iOS platforms)
- Implemented features end-to-end, from backend to frontend, along with test suites for stability's sake
- Implemented an AI-powered search engine using Algolia to help surface the perfect product for the user
- Helped shape the overall look and feel and design system
- Shipped loads of updates and improvements over time
